The teacher, when she begins to work in our schools, must have a kind of faith that the child will reveal himself through work. She must free herself from all preconceived ideas concerning the levels at which the children may be. The many different types of children…must not worry her…The teacher must believe that this child before her will show his true nature when he finds a piece of work that attracts him. So what must she look out for? That one child or another will begin to concentrate.”
—Maria Montessori The Absorbent Mind, p. 276

In a nutshell, the child is the focus in a Montessori classroom and taught as an individual. A Montessori teacher studies each child’s peculiar need and that will determine how the child is taught. This is what Maria Montessori calls following the child, meaning the teacher or caregiver observe the child and from their observations will determine what aspect of the child needs development and prepare activities to support the child.
In Montessori methodology every skill of the child is developed by carefully planned curriculum activities in a safe environment which children can developed to their full potential through reasoning, problem solving, educational games, reading, homework, manners, etiquette, communication, constructive play.

															Montessori Classroom
The role of a Montessori teacher after graduating from the course is to prepare the right Montessori stimulating environment in school where the ideology can be applied to build a solid foundation, develop children that are cognitively developed, independent, organized, orderly, confident and intelligent. A Montessori child is well grounded on a solid foundation to handle life’s complex challenges.
Montessori teacher’s role is downplayed in the Montessori, this is because, the children are the focus not the teacher. They observe their children, recognize their needs and are the link between children and the prepared environment.
